Buying a Gun Safe from China (written for Dallas Biometric Gun Safe)
As globalization became more popular many companies initiated outsourcing their gun safes to China. Because of this more than three quarters of all gun safes are produced in another country. This may have been to lower the production cost but because of this quality is definitely been lessened. If you set the two side-by-side you might not notice a difference between them but I assure you they are not the same.
First of all let's begin with the metal, and in China their steel is softer than it is in America. This steel is what they use to make the body of the safe and because of this it can be drilled through more easily than metal from the United States. In other words, it is not a safe and strong as a gun safe that has been manufactured in the US. When constructing a fireproof safe the manufacturer must insert a layer of insulation to keep the fire from penetrating through the metal and destroying the contents of the safe. Safe companies use what is called a fire board to protect against fire; this is similar to drywall, and fire board manufactured in China is low-quality. American fire board is of increased quality and allows a safe to have a higher fire rating.
Chinese manufacturers also use welding for each side of the safe, which can bring down the strength, because it weakens the body. Most American companies bend the steel, and this provides a much stronger safe. The locking system is also made of steel, and since Chinese steel is so much softer than American steel it can more easily be drilled through. Gun safes are compromised of what is called a relock , which will lock the safe in case someone is trying to break in. If this relock is not of high quality it will not guard the lock from a burglar, that is why it is very important to choose a gun safe that is made in America.
